In the spirit of celebrating love to commemorate the 2025 Valentine Day, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO), Down to Heart Speak Out Humanitarian Foundation has presented the sum of N5,000 to 50 women.
The beneficiaries, described as hardworking less privileged women in the society were selected among hawkers, market women, tricycle riders among others.
According to the President and Convener, Down to Heart Speak Out Humanitarian Foundation, Comrade Adejoke Oyeleke, the organisation set out to show love to women during Valentine’s period by empowering them to boosting their confidence and self-esteem
She said the women were randomely selected on their street, doing the work in different parts of Ibadan including: Sabo, Mokola, Total garden, Challenge, Idi odo Molete, Gate towards Old Ife Road and Oje among others
Other notable women who participated in the street empowerment include: Chief Mrs Wuraola Adepoju, Hajia Samiat Ojo, Mrs Tinu Agbaje and Mrs Precious Egedegbe among others.
Comrade Oyeleke said “What we set out to do was to felicitate and celebrate Valentine’s with hard working but less incapacitated women in the society like women hawking a thing or the other, and women driving commercial tricycles.
“We decided on this initiative because we felt Valentine shouldn’t be about a man and woman alone but we can show love with our fellow women and make them feel loved and important showing them we care.
“We moved round some parts of Ibadan where we saw the women working hard and we shared loved with them while on duty. We were in Sabo, Mokola, Total garden Challenge, idi odo Molete, Gate towards Old Ife and Oje and other parts of Ibadan environs.
“The initiative is to show love to women during Valentine’s period. Our focus as an NGO is to empowers women, boost their confidence and self-esteem, challenge societal norms, promoting equality, provide emotional support and upliftment, raises awareness about mental health and emotional well-being as well as spreads love, kindness, and compassion so as to inspire a ripple effect.
“In this latest effort, we gave N5,000 cash gift to 50 hardworking women to encourage them and show them love.
“We know that the effort of our NGO will create a ripple effect by encouraging others to show love and appreciate the hardworking women in their lives.”
