Eid-el-Kabir: Let’s remain committed to nation’s growth- Makinde

Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde has called on all Nigerians to remain committed to the growth and development of the nation, emphasizing the virtues of tolerance and self-sacrifice during the Eid El Kabir celebrations and beyond.

 

The governor also emphasised the importance of cohesion and unity in nation building, urging Muslims and residents alike to reflect on these principles for the collective benefit of society.

 

He spoke through his deputy, Bayo Lawal shortly after observing the Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the Agodi Prayer ground, Ibadan.

 

Makinde who acknowledged the challenges that the nation has faced in recent times, urged citizens to use the holiday as a reminder of the strength of Nigeria when united.

 

He said: “Eid-el-Kabir is a time to reflect on the virtues of sacrifice, kindness, and mercy, all of which are essential to building a thriving nation. Let us use this holiday as an opportunity to reaffirm our dedication to the growth and development of Nigeria.

 

The governor also emphasised the importance of tolerance and understanding, as he called for peace among different ethnic and religious groups in the state and the country at large.

 

He charged the people to remain committed to the state development project being championed, noting that the state now ranks among the best in Nigeria due to the support and cooperation enjoyed from the people.

 

He called for a self re-dedication towards collectively making the state more prosperous.

 

The governor, also encouraged everyone to use the occasion to contemplate on the greatness of Allah, emphasizing the significance of self-sacrifice and adherence to law and order.

 

He called on residents to refrain from harmful behaviors, highlighting the transformative potential of Eid-el-Kabir in fostering godliness, personal renewal, and tolerance towards others.

 

Lawal also harped on the importance of supporting Governor Seyi Makinde’s initiatives for the prosperity of Oyo State and advocated for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, rejecting religious discord.

 

Shortly after the prayers, Lawal led a delegation of top government officials to the Governor’s residence to pay Sallah homage, where prayers were held for the governor and the state.

 

Despite the Governor’s absence, Lawal expressed gratitude for the support and prayers of all that had elevated the administration of Governor Makinde and Oyo State’s standing, affirming his commitment to continue to support and work with the governor to further the state’s development.

 

Earlier during the Eid prayers, the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheik Abubakri Agbotomokekere, led supplications, expressing gratitude for another year and offering prayers for the governor and the prosperity of Oyo State.

 

Accompanying Lawal were notable dignitaries including former deputy governors, government officials, and community leaders who joined in the celebrations and prayers for the well-being of their state and its leadership.
