Coronation: Alaafin hails Tinubu, Makinde, others for colourful ceremony

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade has restated his committed to promoting the welfare and prosperity of his kingdom and the entire Yoruba race.

A release form the Director of Media and Publicity to the Alaafin, Bode Durojaiye said Oba Owoade stated in his letter of appreciation to those who participated in the coronation ceremony.

Oba Owoade expressed his deepest appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, members of the Federal Executive Counciil, the government and good people of Oyo State under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, for their support and goodwill.

He also thanked traditional rulers, dignitaries, and guests who honored the epoch occasion with their presence.

The Paramount Ruler also appreciated the Yoruba community in the diaspora for their love and support, his subjects, esteemed guests, members of the local organizing committee, volunteers, and all those who worked tirelessly to make the ceremony a success.

Alaafin in the letter said, said “”Your presence, support, and goodwill messages have not only touched my heart and filled with joy but they have also projected the richness of our cultural heritage and commitment to the legacy of our ancestors.

“The coronation ceremony was a grand success because of your contributions – as our fathers would say, a tree does not make a forest. It a celebration of our rich Yoruba culture and heritage, and a testament to the enduring bond between our kingdom and the global community.

“As I begin my reign, I am committed to promoting the welfare and prosperity of our kingdom and the entire Yoruba race. I look forward to your continued support and partnership”, Oba Owoade was quoted.

Corenews reports that, Oba Owoade’s coronation as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo held on April 5, 2025.

President Bola Tinubu, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, Ambassadors of Portugal, Cuba, Brazil, and Spain, Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, Governors of Ondo and Osun State, the Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, top government functionaries, policy makers, family and friends were part of history when Governor Seyi Makinde presented Oba Owoade as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo

At the glamorous event which took place at the Olivet Baptist High School, Olivet Heights, Oyo, the dignitaries which cuts from all walks of life said the once in a lifetime occasion is a sign of good thing to come for the ancient city and the state as a whole.
