Archbishop Aladekugbe urges christians on political participation

The Bishop of Ibadan North Anglican Diocese and the Archbishop of Ecclesiastical Province of Ibadan, Dr Williams Aladekugbe has called on Christians to join the political parties of their choice as a way of contributing their quota to the development of the nation.

 

A statement by the Diocesan Communicator, Mr Solomon Ayoade noted that the cleric gave the charge during the Joint Women’s Organization Annual Conference Thanksgiving, held at the Cathedral of St. Peter Aremo, Ibadan on Sunday.

 

According to the statement, Archbishop Aladekugbe while delivering the sermon during the service enjoined Christians to join politics to sanitize the system and restore the country’s hope in a bid to having Nigeria of our dreams

 

Referring the congregation to Luke 7:11-17, Heb 3:5, John 1:15 and Proverbs 24:10, the preacher emphasized that in line with the theme of the conference, truly Jesus is the hope of hopeless.

 

He added that, in the face of instability in all facets of life in Nigeria such as politics, security, economy, marriages, employment, the people should put their hope and trust in Jesus alone who is ready to meet all their needs

 

“Nigerians are suffering in the midst of plenty because of the insensitivity of our leaders at various levels, greediness, corruption, and self centeredness which are unacceptable to God and man”, the Clergy further stressed.

 

He reminded Nigerians that Nigeria is a secular country, consequently, there is no state religion, every Nigerian is free to observe the religion of his choice without intimidation, harassment, discrimination, persecution and in the distribution of political positions and enjoyment of dividends of democracy

 

The conference thanksgiving service was attended by personalities from all walks of life such as clergies and their wives, members of Diocesan women organisations, traditional rulers, politicians and traders among others.
