The Oyo State Police Command has recovered and seized various quantities of suspected illicit drugs from a suspected criminal hideout in Ibadan.
The Command said the seizure was made possible through credible intelligence provided by a strategic and progressive partner of the Command.
A statement by the spokesman of the Command, Ayanlade Olayinka, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) said information received by the Command indicated that an apartment located along Abanise Street, Academy area, Olomi, Ibadan, was being used to stockpile a large consignment of suspected illicit drugs by one Oluwadamilare Adedayo (male) of the same address.
The statement reads in part,  “In furtherance of its sustained efforts to combat drug-related crimes and enhance public safety, the Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that operatives of the Command have successfully recovered and seized various quantities of suspected illicit drugs from a criminal hideout in Ibadan, through credible intelligence provided by a strategic and progressive partner of the Command.
“Prompted by this intelligence, information received indicated that an apartment located along Abanise Street, Academy area, Olomi, Ibadan, was being used to stockpile a large consignment of suspected illicit drugs by one Oluwadamilare Adedayo (male) of the same address. In response, detectives were promptly deployed to the location to verify and act on the information.
“Consequently, a thorough search of the apartment and its immediate surroundings was conducted. During the operation, nine (9) bags of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, one hundred and one (101) wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Canadian Loud, as well as other hard and illicit drugs, were recovered and duly secured as exhibits, thereby disrupting a suspected drug distribution network within the area.
“In view of the suspect’s absence at the time of the operation, intensive surveillance and a coordinated manhunt have been launched on the express directive of the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna, to apprehend the suspect who is believed to have concealed the exhibits prior to police intervention.
“Against this backdrop, the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, has appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his strategic leadership, operational direction, and unwavering support, which continue to strengthen intelligence gathering and intelligence-led operations across the country.
“Similarly, the CP has commended the strategic partnership and seamless collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and other sister security agencies, as well as community stakeholders, whose cooperation and timely intelligence were instrumental to the success of the operation.
“This development therefore underscores the Command’s proactive and intelligence-led policing framework, deliberately designed to stem the circulation of illicit drugs, which are known catalysts for violent crimes and other forms of criminality within the State.
The Command however reassured residents of the State of its unwavering commitment to sustaining the fight against crime in all its ramifications and urges members of the public to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information, as security remains a collective responsibility.
