The Oyo State Police Command has refuted viral online videos claiming that Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi and her son, who were abducted in Igbope on June 16, 2026, have been safely rescued.
In an official statement addressing the viral media, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, described the online reports as entirely inaccurate.
“The Command wishes to state unequivocally that the claim contained in the circulated video is false, unfounded, and misleading,” Olayinka stated.
According to authorities, security forces have been actively working on the case since the kidnapping was first reported.
Olayinka noted that the Command has “sustained and intensified operational and intelligence-driven efforts in collaboration with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders” to secure the victims’ release and apprehend the perpetrators.
The police warned that the dissemination of unverified claims could severely jeopardize the active investigation and cause unnecessary panic.
“The circulation of unverified information at this critical period is capable of creating false narratives, generating unnecessary confusion, and undermining ongoing rescue efforts,” Olayinka said.
In light of the setback caused by the rumors, authorities are calling on the community to support their operations with factual data rather than spreading speculation.
Olayinka appealed to members of the public who may possess “useful and credible information relating to the incident to come forward and assist security agencies.”
Citizens were also urged to exercise caution when consuming and sharing news on social media platforms, with Olayinka advising the public to “rely only on official communication channels for updates and to verify the authenticity of any content before sharing.”
Reaffirming their dedication to resolving the case, the spokesperson maintained that the Oyo State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safe rescue of the victims and maintaining public safety.
