Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of 26-year-old Kehinde Asimiyu, who was stabbed to death during a fatal altercation in the Olodo area of Ibadan.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at Olodo Garage following a heated dispute between the victim and one of the suspects.
According to official reports, the deceased was stabbed with a broken bottle during the fight.
His family was alerted to the bloody attack shortly after an unidentified commercial motorcyclist arrived at their residence to report the situation.
Upon receiving the report, police operatives and a patrol team immediately mobilized to the scene.
The victim was rushed to Academy Hospital at Texaco, Iwo Road, Ibadan, where he was declared dead by the medical doctor on duty.
His body has since been deposited at the Adejare Embalming Centre for preservation while preliminary forensic procedures and photographs were taken.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the command, Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the arrests in an official statement, identifying the key suspects involved in the violent clash.
“In the course of the Police intervention and subsequent investigation, two suspects were arrested. They are Taiwo Babarinde, suspected to have inflicted the fatal injury on the deceased, and Ishola Semiu, suspected of involvement in the incident.
“Both suspects are currently in Police custody, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, Ibadan, for comprehensive investigation,” Olayinka stated.
Following the news of Asimiyu’s death, severe tension flared up around the Olodo Police Outpost, nearly escalating into a total collapse of public order as local hoodlums issued threats of violence.
To counter the looming breakdown of law and order, security forces mounted a joint heavy deployment across the axis.
According to Ayanlade, the police command rapidly deployed additional operational assets alongside personnel from the Nigerian Army, the Amotekun Corps, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and local law enforcement groups.
He said the coordinated joint operation successfully quelled the brewing violence and restored normalcy to the community.
“To ensure long-term peace, the Commissioner of Police directed the Moniya Area Commander to convene a strategic engagement with community leaders, representatives of the Local Council Development Area, youth leaders, and unions of tricycle and motorcycle operators to address the underlying tensions”, he added.
Addressing the public, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Olugbenga, warned against any attempts to cause further disturbance and urged residents to remain law-abiding.
“The Command reassures residents of Olodo and its environs that adequate security measures remain in place to safeguard lives and property. It also issues a stern warning to individuals or groups seeking to foment trouble, incite violence or exploit the situation to destabilise the area that such conduct will not be tolerated,” Ayanlade said.
He further urged community members to embrace peace, maintain calm, and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information to ensure safety across the state.
