Oyo police arrests man for amputating farmer over girls issues

A man named Sunday James has been arrested for amputating the arm of a farmer, Benua Bukari in Ologede Village, Tede, Oke Ogun area of Oyo State.

The incident was said to have occurred during an altercation between the two residents, which later escalated into a fisticuffs.
During the fight, James was said to have used a cutlass to sever the right wrist of Bukari.
The victim, it was gathered is receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital where he was immediately rushed to by the police.
It was gathered that the incident stemmed from a disagreement involving three girls residing at Ibudọ Kareem Village, Tede.
Spokesperson of the Oyo State Command of the Nigerian Police, Ayanlade Olayinka, a Deputy Superintendent, confirmed the incident on Sunday.
He said, “The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with a case of grievous harm reported at the Tede Division, reaffirming its resolve to decisively tackle violent crimes across the state.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that one Benua Bukari (male), a farmer and resident of Ologede Village, Tede, had an altercation with one Sunday James, which escalated into a physical fight.
“During the fight, Sunday James allegedly used a cutlass to sever the right wrist of Benua Bukari.
“Following the report, a team of operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer, Tede Division, promptly mobilized to the scene, leading to the arrest of Sunday James, who is currently in police custody as investigation progresses.
“The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital by the police, where he is presently receiving medical treatment.
“The incident reportedly stemmed from a disagreement involving three girls residing at Ibudọ Kareem Village, Tede.
“In view of this, the Command strongly warns members of the public against taking the law into their own hands and advises individuals to always seek lawful, peaceful, and civil means of resolving disagreements without resorting to violence.”
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna, expressed strong displeasure over the development and directed that the suspect be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigation.
He further reassured members of the public of the Command’s unwavering commitment to ridding Oyo State of violent crime and ensuring a safer and more secure environment, in line with the vision and mission of the Inspector-General of Police, whose leadership has continued to pave the way for robust and intelligence-driven security nationwide.
