As parts of efforts to prevent flooding in affected local government areas of the state, the Oyo State government through the State Emergency Management Agency (OYSEMA) said it has activated the Early Warning System (EWS) by creating awareness to inform the public where there might be heavy to moderate rain or flooding.
When contacted, the Executive Secretary, OYSEMA, Mrs Ojuolape Busari said the sensitization programs, held in collaboration with the officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) particularly held at the various identified local government tipped to record heavy downpour.
The efforts, according to her was to inform and enlighten the residents on the best practice response plan in flooding situations.
She said, the latest sensitization effort which held at Egbeda local government area recently had in attendance stakeholders from all the flood-prone LGAs in the state and were equipped with necessary information and proactive measures.
According to NIMET, the local governments tipped to recorde heavy to moderate rain or flooding include: Atisbo, Ona ara, Lagelu, Ibarapa central, Iwajowa, Iseyin, Ibarapa north, Ibadan North, Ido and Surulere.
Mrs Busari said, “We activated the Early Warning System (EWS) by informing the public where there might be heavy to moderate rain or flooding.
“We also had a Sensitization program in collaboration with NEMA at Egbeda LG to inform and enlighten them on the best practice response plan in flooding situations.
“All the flood-prone LGAs in Oyo State were invited and present at the sensitization program.”
