The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration at the University of Ibadan, also the Director, Office of Alumni Relations, Professor Peter O. Olapegba, FNPA, has stated that the alumni body is the greatest asset of a university.

To this end, world-class universities leverage the alumni to ensure that they don’t go into extinction.

Professor Olapegba made these statements at the handing over of 85 books willed to the Department of Petroleum Engineering, University of Ibadan by an alumnus, late Engr Joseph Adeyemi Akinlawon.

Professor Olapegba said that the Office of Alumni Relations was established to deepen the University’s relationships with its alumni.

He appreciated the late Engr. Akinlawon, who remembered to give back to his alma mater. He also thanked the family and the solicitors for executing the wishes of the deceased.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships, Professor Oluyemisi A. Bamgbose, SAN, said the donation was a welcome and pleasant surprise that an alumnus could still remember his department and make provisions for that department even after his death.

The solicitors to the estate of late Engr Joseph Adeyemi Akinlawon, Segun Ogunbanjo & Co, were represented by Mr Kunle Fakaiyejo who explained that the 85 books were delivered to the Department of Petroleum Engineering in accordance with the last will and testament of the late Engr Akinlawon.

A classmate of the deceased who attended the handing over ceremony, Prof S. O. Isehunwa, recalled that Engr. Akinlawon was the best student in his class set and was the only one who graduated with a First Class grade in his set of 1982.
