40years after: Adelagun Memorial Grammar School ’86 set celebrates reunion anniversary

It was a commendable get-together for the old students of Adelagun Memorial Grammar School, Odinjo, Ibadan, as the 1986 set celebrate four decades after graduating from their Alma Mater.

 

The joyous celebration which brought together many men and women of substance from all walks of life, held on Saturday at the St Luke’s College Hall, Molete, Ibadan, Oyo State.

 

After forty years of separation, the old students who are now mostly grandparents met again for the first time on November 29th 2025 at their Alma Mater.

 

The event provided the old students an opportunity to reflect on their lives and achievements, while also reminiscensing on their years back in school.

 

They also reflected on the progress of their school and individuals.

 

The event, which was made possible by one of the old students, Lawal Akinlabi, who networked with many and brought them together as one big family of AMGSOSA Set ’86.

 

Prior to the celebrations, a first physical meeting, which held saw the emergence of an executive committee, led by Prince Jubril Arowolo-Are, as President. He was the former sports prefect of the set.

 

The five members executive, it was gathered facilitated benefits to the Alma mater in terms of sponsorship to some students ànd donation of marker boards to both the junior and senior secondary schools.

 

A constitution to govern the group activities was also presented which led to the need for the old students to celebrate themselves.

 

In his welcome address, the association’s President, Arowolo-Are, expressed appreciation to God Almighty, for protection and mercy on their reuniting, after four decades of leaving their alma mater, as boys and girls.

 

He noted the emergence of members as captains in their respective professions, based on the knowledge and morals the school impacted on them.

 

He also urged members to look inward and continue to give back to their school, in areas of support, for developmental projects and scholarships to students.

 

A remembrance session was held for some of their colleagues, teachers and mentors that were deceased, and prayers were offered for their departed souls to be granted eternal peace.

 

Some of their teachers were also at the celebration. Those in attemdace include: Mr Ogunrinola Olusegun, Chief Olatunji Akadiri, Alhaji Ogunremi Dhikrulai, Mr Bamidele Michael and Mr Olaletan Bolaji.

 

Members of the 1986 Set in diaspora also joined their colleagues in celebrating their reunion.

 

Dignitaries present at the event included, Chief Sulaiman Ajeniyi Ajewole, President General, CCII, a student of Adelagun in the 70s, Hon Fatai Adesina, also a student of the school in the 80s, and other important guests.

 

In her vote of thanks, Mrs Ganiyat Ayolola Adedoja, nee Azeez, who doubles as the Set ’86 PRO and Chairperson of the anniversary committee, appreciated God for giving them the grace to witness their fortieth anniversary, while imploring all the celebrants, to continuously embrace love, peace, harmony and tranquility in their present and future endeavours.
