….Vice Chancellor, Olaniyan announces plan to admit students soon

The rich history of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo has been described as a blessing to the teaching profession by the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Olanrewaju Olaniyan.

 

In a release made available by the Special Assistant on Media Matters to the Vice Chancellor, ‘Wale Adeoye, the University Chief Executive spoke at the 2-hour symposium hosted by the foremost University of Education to mark the 2023 World Teachers’ Day tagged, “The Teachers We Need for the Education We want: The Global Imperative to Reverse the Teacher Shortage”. According to the renowned economist, “We have come together today to celebrate the 2023 World Teachers’ Day as a teacher-producing institution. To us, teachers are role models and nation builders and therefore deserve to be always celebrated. The joy of teaching is to have good products and we are thankful to the Visitor to the University, His Excellency, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, FNSE for deeming it fit to upgrade the 127-year old institution to a University. Indeed, the vision of the founding fathers has come to fruition. We have started well and the process is ongoing to admit students. I am delighted to mention that before the end of this year, we will admit the first set of students.”

Speaking further, the Eruwa-born technocrat states, “the theme for the 2023 World Teachers’ Day shows that there is a global shortage of teachers not only in Nigeria but across the globe. Our institution is therefore well positioned to eradicate teacher shortage. We have the resources. I assure you that this shall be a yearly event and we shall continue to celebrate our teachers. Congratulations and a happy World Teachers’ Day”, he submitted.

 

The event which drew resource persons from the teaching profession viz, Comrade Victoria Babatunde (NUT, Oyo Zone), Mrs. Olakunbi Ajao (ANCOPSS, Oyo Zone) and Dr. Mrs. Abiodun Gbenro, Head, Department of Adult and Continuing Education, Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo as panelists was moderated by the renowned linguist, Dr. I. A. Adedeji. The trio advocated the encouragement of teachers by the government and relevant stakeholders citing poor working condition, poor training and inadequate renumeration as part of the problems affecting teaching profession.

 

Dignitaries present at the programme include University Management members, Deans, Directors, Head of Departments/Service Units, Union leaders, Student leaders, teachers from all walks of life and members of the University community.
