Oyo state government in collaboration with a Non governmental organisation, Dangote Foundation has distributed 30,000 bags of 10kg rice across the state, as part of efforts to alleviate poverty and address food insecurity.

The food relief initiative, second of its kind, targeted residents across all strata of society, including able-bodied, persons living with disabilities, women, and elderly was held at the Local Government House, Oyo State Secretaria, Agodi, Ibadan on Monday.

Speaking during the distribution, Governor Seyi Makinde, noted that private sector involvement through corporate social responsibility will significantly support government efforts to reduce poverty and food insecurity in the country.

Governor Makinde, represented by Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, noted that the initiative reflects sustainable engagement with private sectors.

He expressed gratitude to the Foundation for what was described as a noble and global initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable citizens.

Also speaking, head of operations, Dangote Foundation, Victor Ejiro, who said the donation was a response to the harsh economic situation across Nigeria, charged beneficiaries to share with their households and neighbors in need.

He noted that the distribution in Oyo state is part of several planned interventions across the country, as the foundation continues its partnership with state governments to address poverty and food insecurity.

Some beneficiaries who received the rice expressed appreciation for the gesture, noting that it would help cushion the effect of rising food costs in their homes.
