A member of the House of Representatives representing Ayedire/Iwo/Olaoluwa Federal Constituency of Osun State, Hon. Lukman Mudasiru, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) poses no threat to the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 governorship election in the state.
The Osun State governorship election is scheduled for August 15, 2026, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke running for a re-election on the platform of the Accord party.
While Najeem Salam is the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji is running on the APC platform.
Mudasiru, popularly known as L and K, expressed confidence that the Accord Party would secure victory, insisting that the will of the people would prevail regardless of any perceived federal influence.
He stated this while hosting the Executives of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council who paid him a visit at his Ibadan residence.
The lawmaker dismissed concerns about the use of federal might in the election, citing the 2014 governorship poll conducted under former President Goodluck Jonathan.
According to him, despite the deployment of security agencies and other federal apparatus at the time, the people of Osun resisted intimidation and voted according to their choice.
“They came with security agencies, dogs and everything to intimidate the people, but the people stood firm and insisted on what they wanted. That is what will happen again. There is nothing anyone can bring from the top that can intimidate the people of Osun,” he said.
He maintained that residents are satisfied with the performance of Governor Ademola Adeleke, noting that his administration has transformed towns and communities across the state.
“Everybody is enjoying the work of the current government. Places that looked like villages before have been transformed. There is nothing the APC can use to campaign,” he said, adding that victory for the Accord Party would be evident early on election day.
On the prospects of former Governor Rauf Aregbesola and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mudasiru dismissed their relevance in the contest.
He noted that key political figures previously aligned with Aregbesola, including Moshood Adeoti, have since aligned with the Accord Party, thereby weakening the ADC’s structure.
Mudasiru further described Aregbesola as lacking political influence in the state, insisting that he cannot win even in his hometown of Ilesa.
“We don’t see ADC as a contestant. The real contest is between APC and Accord. Accord will win about 70 per cent of the votes, while APC will get 30 per cent,” he added.
