Ibadan building collapse: Police confirms fatality

Oyo State Police Command on Thursday confirmed the death of ten people and rescue of eight others after a building collapsed in Jegede, Olunloyo, Ona Ara local government area of the state.

 

He said those that were rescued are currently battling with various degrees of life threatening injuries and receiving medical attention.

 

Spokesperson of the Command, Adewale Osifeso, a Superintendent of Police gave the confirmation in a message when contacted.

 

He said adequate security has been put in place in the area to prevent hoodlums from taking the incident scene while also ensuring protection of lives and property.

 

He said the Commissioner of Police, Ayodele Sonubi has led other officers to the scene to assess the level of incident.

 

He added that investigation is ongoing at the moment to unravel the possible circumstance that could have led to the incident, assuring that updates would be provided accordingly.

 

Osifeso said “Today being Thursday 31/10/2024 around 0200hrs, a storey building located around Ojugbede Jegede Area, Ogbere collapsed leading to the immediate loss of ten lives while eight others are currently battling with various degrees of life threatening injuries.

 

“Adequate security has currently been emplaced in the Area to prevent hoodlums from taking over the incident scene and as well protect the lives and property of other residents within the Jurisdiction.

 

“Investigation is ongoing at the moment to unravel the possible circumstance that could have led to the incident. Updates would be provided accordingly, please.”
