The Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Dr. Tajudeen Sanusi has recollected that discipline was the first of the virtues he was taught in the University of Ibadan during his undergraduate programme.
He said they were taught to respect the elderly and hierarchy. He, therefore, urged the Vice-Chancellor to sustain the legacy, which helped to differentiate UI graduates from others.
Dr. Sanusi, who spoke at his investiture as a UI@75 Ambassador in Abuja admitted that the mentoring he received in UI shaped his life.
He disclosed that his wife and two of his children are alumni of UI adding proudly that his son is a First Class graduate of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ibadan.
Dr Sanusi pledged to do his best to uphold the dignity of his Alma Mater because the University had played a major role in his career achievements.
According to him, there can not be any talk about medical education in Nigeria without the mention of UI from where it started.
He said UI is a good University and assured that he will continue to do his best to support the University.
Dr Sanusi commended the contributions of the Ibadan College of Medicine Alumni Association (ICOMAA) to the development of the College of Medicine.
He noted that World-class universities do not depend on appropriations but receive help from their alumni and philanthropists.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale, commended Dr Sanusi for making UI proud through his achievements at the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
The Chairman of the UI@75 Anniversary Committee, Professor Peter Olapegba said the University expects Dr Sanusi to leverage his contacts and networks to support the University of Ibadan in its efforts to boost its Endowment Fund, upgrade infrastructure, provide scholarship for indigent and outstanding students, generate energy and ensure mobility for both academic and non teaching staff.
