Ahead of the commencement of the electronic birth (e-birth) registration in Oyo state, the National Population Commission (NPC) on Friday, said it has concluded training for adhoc staff that would be deployed for the exercise in the state.
NPC Director in Oyo State, Mr. Akin Oyetunde confirmed the development.
The e-birth registration is otherwise called digital registration.
Oyetunde said the commission just concluded training for adhoc staff selected from the 33 local government areas of the state and will commence the e-registration next week.
The Director, lauded UNICEF for its e-birth registration initiative, saying it will help the Commission in proper planning and policy formation.
He said: “Yes, it is true, we have concluded our training for our adhoc staffs. The essence of the e-birth registration is to make sure we get it right for the future of our unborn generations.
“We have trained all ad hoc participants who are ready to embark on the exercise.
Meanwhile, UNICEF’s Social Behavioral Change Specialist, Mrs. Aderonke Akinwole highlighted the importance of e-birth registration in the state, at a meeting attended by Social Mobilisation Technical Committee members in Ibadan.
She noted that having accurate data would help in effective planning and development.
The Specialist who maintained that the registration would be done from house to house to ensure that every child is captured, also urged parents to secure the future of their children by registering them.
