Angry mob on Wednesday set ablazed a 14-seater bus after the driver of the vehicle rammed into a motorcyclist at Idi Ape area of Ibadan, killing the rider on the spot.
Two other persons also sustained varying degrees of injuries in the process.
According to unconfirmed sources, the driver of the van, who escaped been lynched was accused of passing through one way when he rammed into the motorcyclist and another on coming vehicle.
The intervention of the officials of the Oyo state security outfits codenamed Operation Burst saved the whole incident from degenerating into another crisis in the axis.
No police officer was sighted while the incident lasted for fear of an attack on the nearby Testing Ground Police station.
Sources informed that immediately the accident occurred, the drivers of the van escaped from the scene while abandoning kegs of vegetable oil inside the vehicle.
Efforts of sympathizers, who stormed the accident scene to save the motorcyclist did not yield any result as the yet-to-be-identified rider died on the spot.
The other two injured persons were later moved to an undisclosed hospital within the vicinity where they are receiving medical attention.
The unavailability of the van driver was said to have triggered the anger in the mob who later set the vehicle ablaze.
Motorists and commuters abandoned the axis as road users who dared had a harrowing experience navigating the route which had heavy traffic congestion.
For more than three hours, the whole Iwo-Road-Idi Ape axis of the capital city was locked down in heavy traffic gridlock.
Residents who agreed to speak with reporters on the condition of annonymity blamed the driver of the bus for the incident.
They confirmed that one person died on the spot while two other were seriously injured.
Officials of the Oyo State Fire Service were seen at the scene while the wreckage of the vehicle has been moved from the area.
