Oyo Assembly congratulates Akeem Abas on emergence as Oyo NUJ Chairman

A congratulatory message has been extended to the newly elected Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, Comrade Akeem Abas, by the Oyo State House of Assembly through the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Media, ICT and Public Affairs, Hon. Waheed Akintayo, popularly known as Ilumoka Presenter.
In a statement personally signed and released on Wednesday, Hon. Akintayo described Abas’ emergence as well-deserved and a reflection of his professionalism, integrity, and long-standing dedication to ethical journalism.
He noted that the election marked the beginning of a promising chapter for the union under a forward-thinking and committed leader.
The Oluyole lawmaker expressed confidence that Abas’ leadership would further strengthen the media landscape in Oyo State, promote press freedom, and enhance collaboration between journalists and government institutions.
He pledged the continuous support and collaboration of the Oyo State House of Assembly, particularly in the areas of effective communication, media development, and public engagement.
Hon. Akintayo also encouraged the new NUJ Chairman to prioritize unity among journalists, uphold high professional standards, and advocate for the welfare and capacity development of members.
He prayed for a successful and impactful tenure for Comrade Abas, adding that the Assembly looks forward to a productive relationship with the NUJ under his stewardship.
The Nation reports that Comrade Abas, of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) emerged winner after polling 143 votes to defeat his closest rival, Comrade Raji Adebayo (Daily Independent) whoever garnered  118 votes and Comrade Sola Oladapo  of the Federal Information who scored 59 votes
