The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, has told participants of the University of Ibadan/Nigeria Defence College Master’s degree in Strategic Studies programme that they made the right choice in attending the University of Ibadan.
This, he said, is because their attendance has conferred on them the status of being alumni of the first and the most comprehensive university in Nigeria.
Professor Adebowale spoke while receiving the 17 members of the class accompanied by Faculty on a courtesy visit to his office.
He told them to join other stakeholders of the University to celebrate its 75th anniversary and to give back to their Alma Mater.
The Acting Head of the Department of Peace, Security and Humanitarian Studies, Dr Ruth O. Adio-Moses, who led the participants, explained that they had the choice of either attending the University of Ibadan or the Nigerian Defence College, and they opted for UI.
She recalled that a lot of issues arose, but they all weathered the storm to successfully complete the course.
She appreciated the cooperation and support of the Vice-Chancellor, adding that his goodwill earned the group free accommodation and feeding while on their 5-day capacity building project.
The Class Governor, Captain D. O. Ajiboye thanked the University of Ibadan and the facilitators for their efforts in ensuring the success of the programme.
He affirmed that their choice of UI was intentional, adding that they are proud and privileged to be part of the UI academic community.
He assured that the members of his group would all be good ambassadors of the University.
The Master’s in Strategic Studies Course 31 was undertaken by 7 officers of the Nigerian Navy, 5 officers of the Nigerian Army, one officer each from the Nigerian Airforce, and Police Force. Others were 2 officers of the Nigerian Foreign Service and one officer from Mali.
