*Inducts 38 UI College of Medicine graduates into profession

The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), Dr Tosan Erhabor has said more than ever before, health stakeholders have a duty to contribute their quota towards the recovery and growth of the health sector.
He said, rather than apportioning blames, now is the time for stakeholders to work together to rejuvenate and stabilise the health system.
Erhabor gave the charge on Wednesday at the induction ceremony of 38 graduates of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (CoMUI) into the medical labour science profession. The graduates are the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) graduating class of 2023.
The occasion which is the 5th induction of MLS graduate of the University, also marks the formal admission of the 2021/2022 set of medical laboratory scientists into the MLS profession.
Out of the 38 inductees presented for the ceremony, two individuals including Akeem-Omosanya Jelilat and Olamide Adedeji graduated with First class.
Dr Erhabor said “More than ever before, stakeholders have a duty to contribute their quota towards the recovery and growth of the health sector. The recent challenges faced by the sector are all too familiar to be recounted here.
“Suffice it to say that the continued health tourism of our citizens and the billions of dollars leaving our foreign exchange reserve is an indictment and a sad commentary on the health system.
“Therefore, rather than apportioning blames, now is the time for stakeholders to work together to rejuvenate and stabilise the health system.”
He said the Council engages in induction/oath-taking exercise to sustain the age-long tradition of bringing fresh blood and perspective into the profession thereby ensuring the succession of those bowing out by those coming in.
He charged the new inductees to be mindful of their practice and professional conduct, as there won’t be room for any misdemeanours.
In his goodwill message, the Chief Medical Director, University College Hospital, UCH, Prof Jesse Otegbayo charged the inductees to see their profession as a calling of commitment to the pursuit of truth, the preservation of health and the advancement of humanity.
In her remarks, the Provost of the College, Prof Olayinka Omigbodun charged graduand christened the Freedom set to use their freedom in positive way, knowing that been free come with responsibilities.
She said the educational system in the country needs some urgent freedom that would allow students learn without distraction and discomfort.
She further called for more collaborations and teamspirit among healthcare professionals and workers in the interest and development of the sector.
