Oyo-born Council Chairman, Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, Professor Ayoade Ogunkunle has joined Oyo indigenes home and abroad in condoling families, friends and business associates of the late business mogul, renowned Chartered Accountant and community leader, Prince Ajibola Afonja who died on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at 82.
In a release made available by the University’s Media and Public Relations Officer, Wale Adeoye, Professor Ogunkunle described the foremost philanthropist and Founder, Integrated Dimensional Systems (IDS) as an enigma whose love for Oyo town was unparalleled and unquestionable.
Quoting the Council Chairman’s release, “I received with great shock the news of the demise of the foremost philanthropist, renowned Chartered Accountant, community leader and former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Prince Ajibola Afonja. He was by every standard an illustrious son of Oyo State and a great Ambassador of Oyo Town.”
“Prince Sulaimon Ajibola Afonja, an icon and a role model to many, especially those connected to Oyo Town was a colossus who used his life in serving humanity. His hobby was putting smiles on people’s faces. His doors were always open, and his arms were outstretched to help the needy. Without being prompted, he would drive around town, interacting with ordinary people, traders and artisans to identify with them and support their trades financially. Indeed, Prince Ajibola Afonja was an enigma and a great man.”
“On behalf of the Governing Council, Management, Staff and Students of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, I pray the Almighty God console his immediate family, friends, business and political associates and grant us the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss”, prayed the Professor of Agriculture.
