The Oyo State Police Command have stepped into an issue involving the Nigerian Labour Congress, (NLC) the sacked outsource staff and management of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company.
Police source who confirmed the invitation of all the parties concerned to a meeting, said the intervention is to prevent a breakdown of law and order, and further escalation of the matter.
The meeting, it was gathered was aimed at proffering lasting solution to the lingering crisis
Corenews reports that the Nigerian Labour Congress, Oyo state chapter after the expiration of 24 hours ultimatum issued to the management of the IBEDC for the reinstatement of the affected staff temporarily shutdown activities at the disruption company on Tuesday.
Customers were denied entry into the premises as Comrade Kayode Martin’s insisted that they would on Tuesday staged peaceful protest over failure of the management of the IBEDC to reinstate its outsource staff.
Comrade Martins had mobilized its members to the Capital Building of the Company in Ringroad to further press home the demands for the reinstatement of the affected workers.
The labour leader insisted that they would not leave the premises until the manager of the IBEDC do the needful.
But, while reacting to the development, the IBEDC management in a statement insisted that the affected staff are not direct staff of the Company.
It noted that they were outsourced by the PIPLL for the Company.
According to the statement, The affected staff were outsourced but we will engage the PIPLL on the matter.
The statement entitled “Statement on contract staff protest at IBEDC head office” reads “The management of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) wishes to address the protest that took place today at our Head Office involving a group of former PIPLL staff.
“We would like to clarify that these individuals are not employees of IBEDC.
“IBEDC has engaged PIPLL to ensure a swift resolution of the issue.
“We remain dedicated to upholding the highest standards of staff welfare across our entire franchise.”
