Police confirms abduction of PDP Chieftain, Akika in Ibadan

Oyo State Police Command on Thursday confirmed the kidnap of a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Oyo state, Chief Benedict Akika.

 

Akika, it was gathered was kidnapped at his Olorunda residence in Lagelu local government area on Wednesday night

 

Confirming the development, Oyo Police Command Spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, a Superintendent of Police said investigation has commenced into the matter.

 

He assures that update will be provided on the matter accordingly.

 

It was learnt that armed gunmen who stormed Akika’s residence threatened to shoot any of the occupants that might put up resistance.

 

A family source who preferred anonymity said the PDP Chieftain was relaxing with his family members when the gunmen arrived, shooting to announce their arrival.

The source said, “There was a sporadic gunshot which was aimed at scaring the residents and passersby.

 

“He was later whisked away to an unknown destination. They threatened to shoot anyone who tried to prove smart or put up any resistance.”

 

The source added that some people at the scene suffered some injury as they tried to scamper to safety on hearing the heavy gunshot.

 

It could not be confirmed if any life was lost as at the time of this report.
