Oyo govt trains 453 supervisors, 420 special assistants on LG administration

Oyo state government, through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters on Thursday organized a capacity workshop for the 453 Local Government Supervisory Councillors, and 420 Special Assistants across the 33 Local Government Areas.

The workshop, which took place in Ibadan, was organized to equip the Supervisors and Special Assistants with skills and knowledge to improve governance at the grassroots level.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo, emphasized that the workshop serves as a catalyst for service delivery at the grassroots level, urging participants to be proactive in applying the knowledge gained.

The Commissioner, who was represented by the Coordinating Director of the Ministry, Mr. Oladotun Olamide commended the efforts of the current administration led by Governor ‘Seyi Makinde for its commitment to good governance in all the nooks and crannies of the state.

Delivering her lecture, the lead consultant, from the Department of Agricultural Economics, University of Ibadan, Prof. Kemisola Adenegan, urged trained participants on the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience needed to support the effective and efficient running of the affairs of the local governments.

She encouraged participants to be actively involved in decision-making and governance processes within their constituencies.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, Supervisory Councillor for Youth and Sports, Iseyin Local Government, Hon. Hammed Adebisi, applauded the initiative, noting that it would redefine the approach of local leaders to problem-solving and grassroots development.

He called on the Ministry to organize more training sessions, stressing the need to empower local officials for better governance and personal development.

Adebisi also reiterated that the local government, being the closest tier to the people, deserves strengthened administrative structures.
