Sequel to the expiration of the seven days ultimatum issued to unauthorized occupants, illegal roadside traders and shanty owners in the state, the Oyo state government through the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources have commenced enforcement and monitoring of major streets over compliance level.

The recent enforcement exercise in Ojoo, Akinyele Local Government Area of the State, was part of the government’s efforts to support initiatives that aim to keep the environment clean.

Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola stressed the need for collaboration with stakeholders such as well-meaning individuals, marketers, corporate organizations, and Non-Governmental Organizations to achieve the goal of a cleaner and healthier environment.

Shortly after the exercise, Mogbonjubola hosted an NGO founded by a Master’s Degree Student of Environmental Chemistry, University of Ibadan, Miss Esther Adewole.

The Commissioner commended the initiative of the organization, especially, on its drive, ‘Clean up Oyo pursuit’, which is in line with the government’s “Making Oyo State Sparkling Clean Agenda”.

He called on the public to support and cooperate with government’s efforts to remove wastes and ensure proper waste management practices. He also urged unauthorized traders and shanty owners to vacate illegal locations to prevent traffic congestion and potential safety hazards.
