Oyo govt cautions against violence at parks, garages

..Inaugurates new Excos for Park Management System

Oyo state government on Wednesday said it will not condone any unwholesome acts at parks and garages in the state, promising to hold responsible anyone found engaging in acts inimical to peace, progress and development of the state.

 

The government gave the warning during the inauguration of a new leadership for the Park Management System (PMS) in the state.

 

The inauguration is coming eight months after the appointment of the former secretary of the PMS, Alhaji Tomiwa Omolewa, as it’s new Chairman and Alhaji Kasali Lawal as Secretary of the interim committee of the state PMS

 

Corenews reports that the appointment followed the dissolution of the disciplinary committee of the PMS led by Mr Mukaila Lamidi, popularly called Auxiliary, on May 29, 2023 few hours after Governor Seyi Makinde was sworn in for a second term in office.

 

The inauguration which held at the House of Chiefs, State Secretariat, Ibadan saw Mr Tomiwa Omolewa (popularly called Tommy) as Chairman; Mr Kasali Lawal as Secretary; Tajudeen Jimoh, Vice Chairman; Mr Kamorudeen Idowu, Treasurer; Mr Adeniyi Tirimisiyu, Financial Secretary and other state excos.

 

Deputy Director, Oyo Ministry of Justice, Mr Adegboyega Salawu administered the oath of office on the excos.

 

Speaking at the event, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr Olusegun Olayiwola enjoined the park managers to embrace the culture of accountability at the various parks adding that the state will not condone any unwholesome acts, drinking of illegal substance and other nefarious activities in the various parks.

 

He said the intention of the state government is to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the PMS in the discharge of their duties at the various motor parks in the state

 

He said, “May I seize this opportunity to advise that the Oyo state government as your employer will forthwith hold you responsible for any act inimical to the peace and progress of Oyo State.

 

“The effort of the government is intended to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our Park Managers in the discharge of their duties at the var- ious parks

 

“The implementation of the new management system is a pointer to the fact that the present administration brings to bear its all-round experience in the area of governance.

 

”It is noteworthy to observe that our parks serve as vital space for recreation, relaxation and community gathering, hence the need to hold accountable the man-agers of the various parks across the nooks and crannies of the State and to streamline park operations.

 

”Let me state categorically that the State will not condone any unwholesome acts, drinking of illegal substance and other nefarious activities in the various parks.

 

”At this juncture, it is pertinent to note that the administration of oaths being administered today by the State Government is meant to provide sanity to the system and to inculcate the culture of accountability in our various parks.”

 

Olayiwola, while affirming that all factions of the motor unions have been incorporated in the newly constituted executive, however urged any faction who felt omitted in the new arrangement to approach his office, assuring that their concerns will be addressed accordingly.

 

Speaking after the council was inaugurated, Omolewa declared that it was a dawn of a new era in Oyo park management where its members shun illegalities and are law abiding.

 

He said the park managers had sworn to abide by the peace pact signed with the state government and hand over erring members to security agencies.

 

Omolewa added that the park managers were committed to the development of the state by serving the people of the state and not harassing them.

 

He appealed for the support of the people of the state by pinpointing anomalies of the park managers promising to correct and make things right.

 

While expressing gratitude to the state governor for the gesture, the new PMS boss promised to instil sanity in the transport sector of the state as well as ensuring discipline among its members.

 

Earlier in their separate goodwill messages, the state Chairman Associations of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, Oyo state chapter, Sikiru Sanda represented by chairman, Ibadan Northwest local government, Rahman Adepoju and Oba Hamidu Ajibade both solicited the cooperation of members of the PMS with the state government towards ensuring peace and progress of the state.
