The Oyo State House of Assembly is set to repeal the law establishing the First Technical University, Ibadan.

This is to reflect the recent change in the name of the University by Governor Seyi Makinde to Abiola Ajimobi First Technical University, Ibadan.

The repeal was contained in a letter forwarded to the House by Governor Makinde and read at plenary on Tuesday by the Speaker, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin.

The letter reads, “This administration has observed the need to repeal the First Technical University, Ibadan, Oyo State Law, 2021 and enact a new law to reflect the University’s well deserved renaming from First Technical University, Ibadan to Abiola Ajimobi First Technical University, Ibadan.

“This is also to ensure its governance structures are in line with other state owned institutions.”

Recall that the First Technical University, Ibadan was established by late Governor Abiola Ajimobi in 2017.

Also during Tuesday plenary, Governor Makinde in letter to the lawmakers sort the confirmation of appointment of Hon. Justice Tajudeen Muhammad Abdul Ganiyu as the President Customary Court of Appeal in the state.

The request became imperative following the recommendation of Hon. Justice Tajudeen Muhammad Abdul Ganiyu to the National Judicial Council as President of the Court of Appeal by the Oyo State Judicial Service Commission.

“Consequent upon the request, the National Judicial Council has recommended Hon. Justice Tajudeen Muhammad Abdul Ganiyu as the new President of Oyo State Customary Court of Appeal”, the letter read in parts.

Governor Makinde’s letter was read at the plenary by the Speaker.
