Oyo Assembly Service Commission begins 2-day capacity building for legislative staff

In a bid to enhance the capacity of its legislative staff, the Oyo State House of Assembly Service Commission has commenced a 2-day training program for officers on Grade Levels 3-7.

The workshop, which kicked off on Tuesday, is designed to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their roles.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, emphasized the importance of capacity building for legislative staff.

He noted that the staff plays a crucial role in the effective functioning of the legislative service, and it is imperative to invest in their growth and development.

Ogundoyin, who is also the Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures, expressed his vision to fortify the value and capacity of legislative staff across all state legislatures.

He commended the Oyo State House of Assembly Service Commission for organizing the training program, which aligns with Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration’s efforts to enhance the capacity and productivity of public servants.

“With this capacity-building initiative, the Oyo State House of Assembly is poised to strengthen its legislative processes, enhance service delivery, and promote good governance in the state.” Oyo Speaker said

The Chairman of the Oyo State House of Assembly Service Commission, Hon. Femi Okedoyin who welcomed participants to the training program, emphase the importance of enhancing the skills and knowledge of legislative staff.

“This program is particularly important and unique in our efforts for excellence in legislative service, as it is the first training programme organised for our legislative staff since my appointment as the Chairman of the Commission in July, 2024,” he noted.

Hon. Okedoyin expressed gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde for his unwavering support for the State Legislature and for approving the training program.

“Governor Makinde’s commitment to promoting the capacity and welfare of the entire workforce in Oyo State is commendable, and we have witnessed significant strides in enhancing the skills and knowledge of our personnel under his leadership,” he said.

In their separate goodwill messages, the Head of Service, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Service Matters, Mr. Oyekunle, Chairman, Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Kamorudeen Aderibigbe, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Training and Establishment, Mr. Taiwo Mustapha, and Clerk of the House, Mrs. Muraina Taiwo Akinola, enjoined the participants to leverage on the opportunity provided by OYHASC to advance their career and contribute to the development of the Commission.

The training program will cover critical topics, including “Ethical Conduct in the Legislative Service,” “Office Management in the Legislative Service,” and “Effective Communication in the Legislative Service.”
