The Nigeria Labour Congress, Oyo state Council, have joined electricity workers under the aegis of National Union Electricity Employees (NUEE) have stormed the headquarters office of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), Ring Road, Ibadan
The action is in fulfilment of an earlier warning issued to the Distribution company, with an ultimatum of 24hours for all sacked workers to be reinstated.
The protesters on Tuesday, barricaded and laid siege at the entrance of the IBEDC, demanding that the electricity company re-instate and pay minimum wage for the staff of the company.
The Labour Union in the state is led by it Chairman, Comrade Kayode Martins and other labour leaders.
He said the protest is to press home the demand of the sacked employed staff of the company.
Comrade Martins condemned the attitude of the outsourcing agents who refused to pay minimum wage for it employees and making deductions that cannot be accounted for.
He appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde and other stakeholders to intervene and rescue the sacked employee of the electricity company saying if they allow 3,000 workers to be sacked, there would be security threat to the state.
Comrade Martin appealed to the management of IBEDC to come out and resolve the issues amicably, before the impasse escalate into full blown crisis.
The protesters blocked the road from challenge to Dugbe and resisted motorists from the route. They carried placards and sang solidarity songs insisting on their demands be granted.
The protesters arrived the IBEDC headquarters in their hundreds as early as 9AM
The situation is causing heavy traffic along the Ring Road axis.
