The Agbekoya Peace Movement has restated the need to combat the protracted insecurity in the South West, urging the governors to allow them flush kidnappers out of the region.
Speaking during an interactive session with journalists in Lagos, Spokesperson of the organization, Comrade Adewole Ayomide, expressed worry at the protracted insecurity in the region, insisting that the group has the capacity to tackle the security scourge across the region.
“The Southwest region has been the target of some criminal element masquerading as kidnappers. They have invaded our forests, making it difficult for the people to travel across the region.
“Reports that kidnappers and bandits have relocated to the South West region are disturbing. What it means, ordinarily, is that we are prone to attack, therefore, we must brace up and keep them at bay.”
While urging the governors in the Southwest to partner with the group, Ireti maintained also that the best way to address the spate of insecurity in the region is to unite and forge a common front that will enhance partnership between the government security agencies and the security organizations at the grassroots.
“We can no longer allow bandits and kidnappers to make our region the haven for terrorists.Agbekoya Peace Movement is at the vanguard of salvaging the South West and if the governors can partner with us,we will tackle the rising spate of insecurity in the region within six months.
“We feel the pains of the people and we are concerned that many people have lost their lives to the security deficit across the nation and that is why we are seeking broad synergy and partnership with the South West governments to enable us fight the scourge across the region”, the APM chieftain stated.
