Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has broken silence on the controversy trailing the number of staff disengaged by its outsourcing company, Premier International Procurements & Logistics Limited (PIPLL).

This is as a peace meeting called between the managements of the affected companies, leadership of Nigerian Labour Congress and officials of Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment was deadlocked.

The meeting could not continue on the grounds that the initial agreement reached at the February 26, 2025 which included the reinstatement of the sacked staff.

But, the number of affected staff have been a recurring source of worry for the distribution company.

Speaking, Coordinating Head, Corporate Services IBEDC, Angela Olanrewaju said only 221 contract staff were affected as against the 3000 that is been widely reported and circulated.

She reiterated the company’s unwavering dedication to providing exceptional service and continuously implements measures to enhance value across its franchise areas.

Additionally, she said she company is committed to ensuring that a truce is brokered on the lingering crisis caused

Olanrewaju said, “The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) remains unwavering in its dedication to providing exceptional service and continuously implements measures to enhance value across its franchise areas.

“In line with this commitment, IBEDC is actively supporting the resolution of the ongoing third-party outsourcing (PIPILL) issue with the Oyo State branch of the NLC. The company appreciates the Federal Ministry of Labour for its efforts in facilitating discussions among stakeholders and commends the professionalism demonstrated throughout the mediation process, which remains ongoing.

“Furthermore, IBEDC strongly refutes the false claim that it has terminated 3,000 employees. The company has repeatedly clarified, with verifiable facts, that its total staff strength is approximately 2,500. The persistence of this misinformation suggests a deliberate and malicious attempt by certain media outlets to tarnish IBEDC’s reputation. Moving forward, the company will pursue legal action to address this defamation.

“We appeal to the Oyo State branch of the NLC to exercise patience while discussions progress and to refrain from picketing our offices or disrupting operations. Such actions would only impede our ability to provide uninterrupted power supply to businesses and residents in Oyo State and its environs.”
