The absence of Olori Naomi Silekunola, Oriyomi Hamzat and Abdulahi Fasasi in court on Monday stalled the hearing of the case at the Chief Magistrate Court, Iyaganku, Ibadan.
Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi presiding over Chief Magistrate Court 1, Iyaganku, Ibadan had on December 24, 2025 adjourned till January 13th, ordering the trio to be remanded at the Agodi Correctional facility pending an advise from the Department of Public Prosecution of the Oyo State Ministry of Justice.
Olori Naomi is the ex-wife of the Ooni of Ife, and runs Wing Foundation, an NGO. Hazmat is the proprietor of an Ibadan based radio station, Agidigbo FM while Fasasi is the Principal, Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan
The trio are facing trial following the death of 35 children as a result of stampede at Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan. The event was organised by Naomi’s Wings Foundation while Oriyomi Hamzat radio station, Agidigbo FM promoted the event massively.
The matter came up at about the same time Justice Kamorudeen Olawoyin of the Oyo State High Court was ruling on the bail application of the trio.
When the matter came up at the Magistrate Court on Monday, the Prosecuting counsel, Inspector Sikiru Opaleye told the court that the advise of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) from the Ministry of Justice, maintained that the defendants are to be charged.
He said, “The case has been duplicated, the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) has rendered the advice awaiting filling of information at the High Court.
“In view of that, we pray the court for an adjournment for mention.”
Opaleye said the defendants were charged on four – count bordering on conspiracy to wit murder, manslaughter, conspiracy and criminal negligence.
He said the offences contravened Sections 308, 324, 344 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi, thereafter, adjourned the matter till January 27, for mention.
Defence Counsel, Mr H. A Adeleke, Mr Dapo Akinmosu, Abdulfatai Oyedeji appeared for the three defendants respectively.
A copy of the legal advice sighted by The Nation and signed by a Senior State Counsel, S. A Osuolale for the Director of Public Prosecution reads in part “Having carefully reviewed the duplicate case file, it is hereby advised that pages B1 (Naomi Silekunola Ogunwusi), B2 (Alh. Oriyomi Hamzat) and B3 (Fasasi Abdulahi Babatunde) should be charged with the following offences:
“Conspiracy to commit a felony to wit: Murder, contrary to and punishable under Section 324 of the Criminal Code, CAP 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
“Manslaughter; Contrary to Section 308 and punishable under Section 325 of the Criminal Code, CAP 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
“Conspiracy to commit an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 517 of the Criminal Code, CAP 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
“Criminal Negligence; Contrary to and punishable under Section 344 of the Criminal Code, CAP 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.”
