Ibadan Circular Road: Protesters observed Jumat prayers on road

Commuters plying Awolowo, Agodi Secretariat and Queen Elizabeth Road were subjected to standstill for several minutes on Friday as residents who were affected by the Ibadan Circular Road corridor observed the Friday Jumat prayers on the road.

The protesters, whose protests entered the third day on Friday in continuation of the pleas gad arrived the gate as early as 7AM.

 

The protesters who carried placards and banners sang passionately calling for the outright cancellation of the corridor.

 

They refused all entreaties to be addressed by any government officials but insisted on listening to Governor Seyi Makinde.

Heavy security was observed as a combined team of Police officers, Civil Defence, Amotekun and plain cloth security operatives were seen on ground.

 

The junat prayers was led by Sheik Almufut AbdulAkeem Mohammad Awwal from Molarere community.

 

In his brief sermon, an islamic cleric who pleaded anonymity urged all residents and people to fear God and remember the judgement day when all human beings will give account of their stewardship.

Special prayer session was offered for the governor, the state and the country at large.

 

As at the time of this report, it was gathered that leaders from the affected communities are in a closed door meeting with government officials.
