The Director General of the Nigerian Country Department of the African Development Bank, Mr Lamin Barrow has stated that he cherishes the memories of his undergraduate days at the University of Ibadan, where he obtained a degree in Economics.
He said he was, therefore, delighted to be decorated as a UI@75 Ambassador.
Mr Lamin, a Gambian national, who spoke at his investiture in Abuja acknowledged that the training he received in UI prepared him adequately for his post graduate studies as well as his career.
He said being an alumnus of UI had given him the privilege of relating with other illustrious alumni of the institution from Zimbabwe, Rwanda and Nigeria.
He noted that UI has a rich reservoir of alumni that can be relied upon to help in the development of the University.
Mr Lamin said the government can no longer be left alone to fund public universities. He stated that UI alumni must give back to the institution of which they are all proud.
He said the Alumni must ensure that UI maintains its pride of place as the premier university in Nigeria.
He pledged to assist the University on its thematic projects which he said are timely and very relevant. He said the scholarship scheme would help identify talents while infrastructure needed to be upgraded.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, said the University of Ibadan, having identified the pedigree and trajectory of achievements of its alumni decided to reach out to them to help the University continue on the trail of excellence which it has blazed in the 75 years of its existence.
