Eight shops razed in Oyo market

No fewer than eight shops were razed in an early morning fire which occurred at Oka- Asamu, Kosobo Area, Oyo East local government area, Oyo on Tuesday.

The swift intervention of the state fire fighters helped to curtail the spread of the inferno.

Sources said the fire incident was as a result of high voltage of electricity when power supply was restored around 2AM.

The incident led to the loss of goods worths millions of Naira but the intervention of the firemen limited the damage level.

Confirming the incident, the Director of Fire Service, Akinyemi Akinyinka said the fire only affected eight shops out of 18 rows of multiple shops through the intervention of the firefighters.

He said “Oyo State Fire Services Agency (Oyo Command) averted inferno at Oka- Asamu, Kosobo Area in Oyo, Oyo East local government.

“At early hour on Tuesday 18th February, 2025, Oyo State Fire Services’ Control Room Center received a distressed call through telephoning to shops on fire at the above address.

“The fire personnel led by ACFS Oyedeji promptly deployed to the scene of that incident and arrived at the scene on time.

“On arrival, some shops were met well alight. The crew swiftly swung into action and restricted the fire to where it was met and avoiding it to spread to other nearby shops.

“The fire affected eight shops out of 18 rows of multiple shops.

“The Agency’s personnel were able to save properties worth billions of naira.

“According to the fire investigation conducted the eye witness made us understand that the fire incident was as a result of high voltage of electricity when power supply was restored.

“The crew returned to the station at precisely 6.51am and on standby.”
