Justice Bayo Taiwo, presiding over Fiat Court 2, Oyo State High Court, Ring Road Ibadan on Friday adjourned a case involving a ‘doctor’, Oludele Olanrewaju, who was arrested for the alleged death and disappearance of the body of a day –old baby delivered by a Togolese who resides in Moniya area of Akinyele Local Government Area, Ibadan.
The case with suit number I/58c/2024 was between Oyo State and Oludele Olanrewaju, aged, 50years.
The state had charged the defendant on three counts which bothers on: stealing of a day old baby, illegal medical practice, and impersonation as a medical doctor.
The defendant was absent in court when the matter came up for mention on Friday. He neither had any legal representation in court as well.
A Senior State Counsel, Mrs Olubisi Bolarinwa, of the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP), Ministry of Justice, represented the State in court.
Ruling, Justice Taiwo adjourned the case till November 26, 2024 for hearing and arraignment.
The state had charged the defendant following a request for legal advice while the case was been heard at the Magistrate court.
The charge field against the defendant, as cited in the charge sheet before the court reads:
“Count I: That you Oludele Olanrewaju, on or about 28th December, 2023, at His Mercy Hospital, Akinyele, Ibadan, in the Akinyele Judicial Division, did steal one day old baby boy belonging to one Bosede John and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 371 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State 2000.
“Count II: That you Oludele Olanrewaju, on or about 28th December, 2023, at His Mercy Hospital, Akinyele, Ibadan, in the Akinyele Judicial Division did engage in illegal medical practice without being licensed to do so, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 17 of the Medical and Dental Practitioners Act LFN 2004.
“Count III: That you Oludele Olanrewaju, from 11th December, 2023 to 28th December, 2023, at His Mercy Hospital, Akinyele, Ibadan, in the Akinyele Judicial Division, did personally yourself as a medical doctor to one Bosede John when you knew you did not have the qualification to be so called, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 484 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol.II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.”
Corenews reports that, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Oyo State, Mr. Abiodun Aikomo, had earlier assured that the state government has set machinery in motion for the re-arraignment of Olanrewaju, thereby laying to rest speculations of indulgence and complacency on the part of the state government
