Cleric commends FG efforts on food security, drop in prices of food items

The Bishop of Ibadan North Anglican Diocese and the Archbishop of Ibadan Province, the Most Rev’d (Dr) Williams Aladekugbe has commended President Bola Tinubu on the improved food security being experienced across the country.

The cleric gave the commendation at the special service to mark World Food Day Celebration and the Joint Women organization’s annual conference Thanksgiving service held at the Cathedral of St Peter Aremo, Ibadan on Sunday.

Commending the government, he said the reduction has been noticed generally, especially the prices of food commodities, including rice and other staple items.

He added that the efforts of government to stabilise the currency, Naira is also yielding results.

Archbishop Aladekugbe said, “It has been noticed recently that there is reduction in the prices of food commodities particularly rice adding that the efforts to stabilize Naira is yielding results.”

He however warned that, to ensure food security, all hands must be on deck adding “we should all engage in agricultural practices to better Nigeria economy.”

Earlier in his address to the congregation, the Oyo State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr Olasunkanmi Olaleye disclosed that in order to guarantee food security, Oyo state government has reduced tractor hiring payment rate to 50 percent and heavily subsidised other farm imputes.

He appreciated the clergy and laity in the Diocese for supporting and praying for the state government to ensure its success in all ramifications of life.

In a related development, Archbishop Aladekugbe, speaking on the theme of the Diocese Joint Women Organizations Annual Conference, “Fitness for God’s Kingdom”, ( Likes 9:62) urged the people to “strive to enter God’s Kingdom which is entirely spiritual as against the worldly materialistic kingdom full of bitterness, greediness, wickedness, unrighteousness, suffering, insecurity, fake promises among others.

He urged the congratulations to avoid distraction, indiscipline and worldly pursuits, adding that “to be fit for God’s Kingdom, we should cultivate spiritual strength, through constant prayers, worship and reading the words of God.”

Presenting the communique issued at the end of the Conference, the President, Ibadan North Anglican Diocesan Women and Girls Organizations, Mrs Catherine Aladekugbe called on all and sundry to turn away from all known ills and evil, assuring that “our living for God cannot be in vain, certainly, there are lots of blessings now and in eternity when we live for God.”

Dignitaries at the event include: the Permanent Secretaries from Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs Abosede Owoeye and her counterpart from Oyo State Agric business Development Agency Dr. Kola Badmus; General Manager of Oyo State Printing Press, Mr Victor Muyiwa Kayode, Chairman Piggery Farmers Association of Nigeria, Rev Oladejo Segun, Chairman Catfish Farmers Association of Nigeria, Mr Deji Adenuga, President Chicken Processors Association of Nigeria, Mr. Balogun Abiodun, Accountant General Oyo state, Mrs kikelomo Adegoke, Bishops, other clergies, their wives, traditional rulers and the congregation as a whole.
