African medical students sign MoU with Lecturio on medical digital resources

Medical students across tertiary institutions in Africa under the auspices of Federation of African Medical Students’ Association (FAMSA) on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a German based digital medical resource content provider, Lecturio to aide their study and learnings.

 

The MoU was signed on behalf of the students by the Administrator, FAMSA Headquarters, Deborah Ogundijo a student of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan and FAMSA President, Banturaki Davis, a medical student in Uganda. Lecturio was represented by its Director of Institutional Partnerships Africa, Dr Lutz Mukke.

 

The signing ceremony which took place at the Board room of the College of Medicine, UCH was also witnessed by the the Provost of the College, Professor Olayinka Omigbodun; Deputy Provost, Professor Adefatai Adeniyi and the Secretary to the College, a Deputy Registrar, Mr Emmanuel Odedele

 

The MoU which is for an initial period of two years will see the company provide FAMSA students with free trial membership of Lecturio Premium via a unique registration link to access digital contents including lectures, researches and study material

 

In a brief presentation before signing the document, Dr Lutz said Lecturio is an organisation whose mission is to provide students with the best learning tools, proven effective by learning science.

 

He said “Lecturio understand the challenges all students face as they endeavor to master the vast amount of foundational science needed to become outstanding healthcare providers.

 

“The team knows that true mastery of this material and the global shortage healthcare professionals require a paradigm shift in how medicine is taught.

 

“In order to take on this challenge, Lecturio created a high-quality digital medical education resources, which is affordable, adaptive and personalized. The platform is designed with the needs of learners and faculty in mind, combined with the latest state-of-the-art learning technology and comprehensive monitoring and assessment features.

 

“Lecturio is guided by a clear and powerful set of values which shape the product and the way we work internally and with our partners: reliability, focus, simplify, joy and think big.”

 

He added that with the partnership, the students have access to various issues, topics, studies and researches which are taught through digital video content so that medical students in Africa can be abreast of global happenings in the field of medicine and healthcare.

 

Noting that the MoU comes at no cost for the students, Lutz said the company has designed advanced teaching structures and learnings delivered through video presentation and content to the students to give them a real life experience.

 

Earlier in her brief remarks, the Administrator, FAMSA headquarters, Deborah Ogundijo said the initiative will help the students have access to contents that can aide their learning at no cost.

 

He thanked Lecturio, assuring that the students will take good advantage of the opportunity the partnership provides.

 

FAMSA is an independent, non political federation of medical students association in Africa, founded in 196i as a Nigerian, Ghanaian and Uganda initiative to Foster the spirit of friendship and cooperation among African Medical Students.

 

It is a project oriented medical students’ body recognized by the World Health Organisation and the African Union as the official international forum of African medical students.
