The Bishop, Ibadan North Anglican Diocese, Dr Williams Aladekugbe has appealed to the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congreaa (NLC) and her Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart to make their demand on increase in minimum wage to be realistic and modest in the interest of the progress of the nation.

This is as he called on leaders across the country to make the fear of God and righteousness their watch words.

Bishop Aladekugbe spoke in a remark shortly after a Church service to celebrate his 60th birthday at the Cathedral of St Peter, Aremo, Ibadan.

He said all leaders in the country across all facets of life be it political, economic, financial, academic, labour, security among others must embrace righteousness and carry out their task with fear of God.

He noted that the present predicament facing the country is centered on bad leadership and followership due to lack of good conscience and belief in God.

He called on Nigerian leaders to allow the country move forward by shunning the social vices eating into the fabric of our nation.

The clergy appealed to the followers to stop murmuring but instead play their roles by being law abiding citizens, render their civic duties and pray for the leaders for the country to bounce back.

In his congratulatory message, the Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate of Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Rev’d Henry Ndukuba said Bishop Aladekugbe throughout his years of ministry and episcopate has been a guiding light and a source of inspiration to many, saluting his commitment to spreading the gospel and nurturing the faith of others is commendable.

He said, “We celebrate not only your achievements but also the wonderful person you are, a compassionate shepherd, a wise leader and a cherished friend to all who know you. Your impacts on the lives you have touched resonates deeply and will continue to bear fruit for years to come.”

In his short sermon at the event, former Archbishop of Ibadan province who is currently the Bishop of Ibadan Diocese, Most Rev’d Joseph Akinfenwa, enjoined both political and religious leaders to be accommodating, tolerant and humble as no condition is permanent.

The event had in attendance, Bishops, clergies and their wives, royal fathers, political office holders, business tycoons, family, friends and well wishers.
