Oyo state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress said there is no going back on the planned protest expected to rock the state on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Expressing its readiness, the State Chairman, Comrade Kayode Martins noted that the move is in compliance with the directives of the National Secretariat of the Union.

He said all affiliates of the labour unions as well as other groups will gather at the State Secretariat of the NLC, American Quarters, Agodi, Ibadan as early as 8AM.

He explained that the workers and all other Nigerians will march from the Secretariat around the state after a briefing and appeal would be made to the government.

However, he stressed that the peaceful protest will not be to disrupt any activities and will be monitored by security operatives in the state.

He appealed to all those who would be joining not to do so with the intention to destroy or damage anything or wreck any havoc, warning that anyone caught disrupting public peace during the peaceful protest would be handed over to the security operatives for appropriate sanctions.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Joint Negotiations Council, Comrade Seun Olanipekun said the workers are ready to storm the streets in protest of the hardship people are facing in the country.

He reiterated that the protest is not against the Oyo state government as the workers have no issue with the state government.

Olanipekun said, “The protest will go on as planned in Oyo state. It is not against the state government because we have no issue with the state. The governor is doing well, but what the governor is giving us with the right-hand, the national is collecting with the left hand.

“That is what we want the people to know. People are hungry. Probably they will say no corpse of hunger is on the street but if you look carefully, you will see people dying of hunger. This is not what the government promised us. We will be on the street on Tuesday and Wednesday in Oyo state by Gods grace and nothing is going to stop it.”

However, as at the time of this report, effort to get similar feedback from the State Chapter of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has not yielded any result as messages sent to the Chairman, Comrade Bosun Olabiyi was yet to be replied.

Similarly, when Corenews reached out to the State Police Command to the Spokesman, Adewale Osifeso, a feedback was yet to be given as the Spokesman said he was attending a meeting at the time.
