Oyo state government on Wednesday began the distribution of agricultural inputs to fish farmers across the state.

The government said the effort is in its bid to mitigate the effect of hardship in fish farming.

At the flag off ceremony which held at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, 3,000 bags of fish feeds were distributed to fish farmers to deflate prices of fish and ensure food security in the state.

The distribution of the feed was made under the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) initiated by the government of Oyo state to cushion the effect of economic hardship due to fuel subsidy removal by the federal government.

While addressing newsmen, the Chairman Oyo State, Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery, Segun Ogunwuyi, represented by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Professor Musibau Babatunde explained that the palliatives distributed by the state government to fish farmers will help to reduce the prices of fish feeds in the state.

He further noted that the present government is trying to target the value chain noting that if the prices of fish feed is deflated, it will be easy for the government to bring down the final output of the prices of fish in the state.

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Oyo state Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs Christiana Abioye charged the beneficiaries to make use of the fish feeds given to them effectively to boost their business and to stand in the business during the hardship.
