Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE), have expressed what it described as grave concern over the ongoing economic hardship pervading the country.

Noting that the current situation is dehumanizing, the Council reminds President Bola Tinubu that the enthusiasm it enjoyed at the last presidential polls was driven by the belief in his genius to turn things around for good.

The call was contained in a communique issued by the YCE and signed by Secretary-General, Chief Oladipo Oyewole after its last quarterly meeting for the year 2023 which held at its National Secretariat.

While expressing optimism and hope in the Tinubu’s administration, the Elders also pray that the almighty will grant his tenure resounding success in its endeavours to return prosperity and smile to the pockets and to the faces of all Nigerians.

The group said “The YCE wishes to express grave concern over the ongoing economic hardship pervading the cities as well as the nook and cranny of the Country. To say the least it is dehumanizing!

“The YCE wishes to remind the Administration that enthusiasm for it at the polls was driven by the belief in the genius of its leading candidate to turn the country’s economic situation from adversity to prosperity.

“The YCE remains hopeful and prayerful that the almighty will grant the Administration resounding success in its endeavours to return prosperity and smile to the pockets and to the faces of all Nigerians.”

The YCE further urge the Federal Government to institute long lasting reformulation of visible

constitutional inadequacies to achieve true Federalism and its attendant resource control implications (restructure).

“This will, necessarily reduce sectional restiveness and it will engender a sense of belonging among all segments of the Society. Specifically, the YCE demands equitable restoring of the polity, without pandering to the pretenses of hegemony”, it reads further.

While commending the FG for the termination of litigation against the Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo (Alias Sunday Igboho) in the Court of Law in Benin Republic.

The YCE noted that “by discontinuing the case, the present administration has de-escalated unnecessary tension in the polity and has re-established the Federal Government as a responsible player in Nigeria’s ongoing democratic and republican experience rather than as a hegenonistic imperium.

“This savoury act by the present administration is a signal to all that grievances and agitations can and should be legitimately and peacefully pursued at all times”, the communique added.
