No fewer than twelve schools were rewarded at the 2nd Edition of Journalist Olawale Ogunbusola School Competition.
The event which was held at the National Museum of Unity, Aleshinloye, Ibadan on Thursday drew lawmakers, commissioners, scholars, artists, artistes, publishers and media practitioners.
In his welcome address, the convener, Olawale Ogunbusola stated that his intention is to partner with the government in quality education delivery, through evaluating the students of secondary schools across the 33 local government councils in the state.
He noted that his competition, as annually approved by the government centres on strengthening student’s exposure, competence and confidence, with rewards to the most deserving students and social personalities for societal progress and a legacy for other generations afterwards.
In a lecture titled’ Sustaining academic standard in Oyo State”, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abdulwaaheed Adelabu, represented by deputy director, Secondary Schools, Miss Gladys Uton noted that failure of any student in the state may be self created as the government of the state led by Governor Seyi Makinde has been adjudged education sectoral best performing governor next to former governor Bola Ige.
Prof. Adelabu said there is no reason for any student to fail, maintaining that the government of Oyo State has provided enabling environment including employment of over 5,000 teachers, creation of Alumni Platforms and education zones, staff training and retraining programmes among others, all of which will give room for an easy education delivery and accessibility.
Other lecture titled “Rape: Curbing the menace in Nigeria” delivered by a deputy director, Lagos/Abuja, Voice of Nigeria, Mrs Olubunmi Osoteku emphasized reasons for rape, effects and prevention among young Nigerians.
In their remarks, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Miss Wasilat Adegoke urged students to remain focus, determined and dedicated in their endeavours for a greater future, while a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and member representing South West I State Constituency, Hon. Yusuf Adebisi charged the students to respect their parents, make academic seriousness a priority.
Goodwill messages delivered by Tunde Odunlade, Yinka Adeniran, Dr. Tayo Adegunju, Bimbo Adedeji, among others applauded the convener and also urged the government to form a better synergy with other education stakeholders for an enviable academic excellence in Oyo State and Nigeria.

iii. Adele Temiloluwa-3rd- Aseyori Schools,Ibadan
Snr:
i. Adepoju Faith-1st- Loyola College,Ibadan
ii. Abdulramon Oyinkansola-2nd- Isabatudeen Girls’ Grammar School and,
iii. Johnson Ayomikun -3rd- Community High School,Isebo
Similarly, students of Government College, Olayipo Alayande, Estate High School, Akobo, Ifesowapo High School, Community High School Ajagba who won in 2022 were rewarded accordingly.
Meanwhile, eleven personalities including Commissioner for Oyo Education, Youth Commissioner, Tunde Odunlade, Folajinmi Akinnawo, VON Deputy Director, Programmes, Mrs Olubunmi Osohoteku, Prince FM Boss, Babatunde Balogun, others were awarded for their societal contributions.
Highlight of the Competition/Award include book mime, artiste performance amongst others.
