The Governing Council, Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo has appointed Professor Ibrahim Olatunde Salawu as the institution’s substantive Deputy Vice Chancellor.

 

According to a release by the Institution’s Media and Public Relations Officer, Wale Adeoye, the decision was taken at the Council’s First Regular Meeting held between Thursday, 18th and Friday 19th January, 2024. According to the release, Professor Ibrahim Olatunde Salawu, who has been in acting capacity since September 26, 2023 has his appointment ratified as substantive Deputy Vice Chancellor. His appointment takes effect from September 26, 2023 for a period of two (2) years.

 

The Council equally approved that the trio of the Head of Registry, Mrs. Olubunmi Siju’ Asunmo; Head of Bursary, Mr. Emmanuel Oluninyo Adegoke and Head of Library, Dr. Mrs. Serifat Mojisola Asiru’s positions be reversed and addressed as Acting Registrar, Acting Bursar and Acting University Librarian respectively with effect from 30 August, 2023.

 

Ibrahim Olatunde Salawu, a Professor of Educational Technology attended Methodist Primary School, Iware between 1964 – 1970 and proceeded to Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan between 1972–1976. He moved to the Divisional Teacher Training College, Ijebu-Ijesa in 1977 and graduated in 1978 and later to Oyo State College of Education, Ila-Orangun between 1979–1982 for his NCE (History/English). He thereafter moved to National School of Salesmanship, Manchester, UK in for a Diploma in Salesmanship in 1982 and Diploma in Sales Marketing 1985.

 

In his quest to acquire a higher degree, he proceeded to the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria for his Bachelor’s Degree Programme (B. Ed) History/English between 1983–1986; Masters of Education (M.Ed), (Hons.) Educational Technology 1987; Master’s Degree Programme in Library Science (M.L.S) between 1990–1991; Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Educational Technology between 1991–1999; Indira Gandhi National Open University, India between 2006–2007 for a Postgraduate Diploma in Distance Education (PDDE). He is a certified expert in distance learning as he obtains NUC – Credit in Module 4–Evaluation in Higher Education in 2003; NUC – Credit in Module 3 –New Technologies in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education in 2003 before topping it up with a Diploma in Computer Science in 2001.

 

Professor Tunde Salawu started his working career as a Classroom Teacher at Queen of Apostles Primary School, Oluyoro, Oke-ofa, Ibadan between 1976 -1977; Class Teacher: St. Paul’s Primary School, Oyedeji via Ijaye between 1978 – 1979; Class Teacher, Mbaterem Community Secondary School, Kyado, Benue State (NYSC) between 1982–1983; Graduate Teacher, Baptist High School, Iwo, Osun State between 1978–1990; Principal Lecturer, Oyo State College of Education, Oyo State between 1990 – 2003; Head, Department of Curriculum and Instruction; Associate Professor, National Open University of Nigeria May 27, 2003; Acting Dean: School of Education, National Open University of Nigeria between 2005 – 2006. He was announced a full-fledged Professor at the National Open University of Nigeria on January 1, 2011. He was Dean, School of Education, National Open University of Nigeria between 2012 to 2016 and Study Centre Director (Abeokuta) between 2017 to 2020.

 

A renowned educationist, technocrat and administrator, Professor Tunde Salawu has published in highly reputable journals both locally and internationally and has supervised numbers of Ph.D students. He is happily married and blessed with upwardly mobile children.
