The National Universities Commission (NUC), has granted Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, full accreditation of the institution’s Nursing and eight other courses in five faculties.

The other programmes are; Environmental Health Science, Christian Religious Studies, History and International Studies, Music, Performing Arts, Law, Mathematics and Statistics.

The approvals followed an earlier visit by the NUC to ACU in October and November 2024 to accredit some academic programmes being run by the University.

The Nation reports that the exercise is in line with Section 10 (1) of the Education (National Minimum Standard and Establishment of institutions) Act CAP E3, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, which empowers the NUC to lay down minimum academic standards for all academic programmes in Nigerian universities and to accredit such programmes,

In a letter dated April 30, 2025 and signed by NUC’s Acting Director of Accreditation, Abraham Chundusu, on behalf of the commission’s Executive Secretary, Prof Abdullahi Ribadu, the NUC said it has granted full accreditation to Nursing, Environmental Health Science, Christian Religious Studies, History and International Studies, Music, Performing Arts, Law, Mathematics and Statistics.

The Commission also said it has accredited the Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme at ACU.

Responding to the development, Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof Timothy Adebayo, thanked the NUC for its transparency and effort to develop university education in Nigeria, stating that ACU’s success mirrors commitment to academic and infrastructural advancement over the years.

He said, “This outcome reflects our commitment to academic excellence and integrity. On behalf of the University Senate and the Governing Council, I thank NUC for its transparent accreditation process. I also commend staff and our students for making this achievement possible.

“This full accreditation will strengthen our position as a leading institution in the delivery of world-class education and research.”
