The Anglican Diocese of Ogbomoso has urged the government to regularly give assurance and updates on progress being made on the rescue operations of Oriire abducted victims.
The appeal was made in a press statement signed by the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Ogbomoso, Right Reverend Titus Olayinka.
The cleric said, “We appeal to our leaders at all levels to give the nation a word of hope, a word of truth, and a word of assurance. Hope is the oxygen of a weary people. Regular updates, visible progress, and renewed commitment will encourage families and restore public confidence that every Nigerian life is sacred and none is forgotten.”
While commending the governments and security agencies for their efforts in rescuing the victims, he emphasized the need to do more and further expedite action.
Hope deferred makes the heart sick,” he said quoting Proverbs 13:12.
“The Anglican Diocese of Ogbomoso appreciates and commends the tireless efforts of the Federal, state, and local governments, as well as our security agencies and other stakeholders, concerning citizens currently in the den of captivity.
“We also pray for the comfort of the families of those security personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty on this national assignment.”
He acknowledged the difficult and dangerous work being done to secure the release of the abducted Nigerians, as he expressed sympathy to the victims and their families.
“We recognize the sacrifices being made. Our hearts are with our people, mothers, fathers, children, and breadwinners, who have been taken from their homes, farms, and communities.
“We sympathize with grieving families and we also pray for strength for all security personnel risking their lives on this task. The Diocese also extends heartfelt sympathy to families who have lost loved ones in the course of rescue operations and bandit attacks.
“To the families of those who have paid the ultimate price, we weep with you. Your loss is our loss. May God comfort you and grant you fortitude. To the families of those still in captivity, be assured: You are not alone. The Church stands with you in prayer until your loved ones return home safely.”
While commending ongoing efforts, Bishop Olayinka urged authorities to strengthen communication and sustain momentum.
Affirming the people have high expectation, he offered heartfelt prayers for “divine wisdom, protection for our forces, and the safe, speedy return of all captives. We commend what has been done so far, and we are expectant for more. More rescues, more justice, more peace, and more testimonies of freedom across our land.”
