Oyo Assembly embark on oversight visit to LGAs, LCDAs, harp on accountability, quality developmental projects

As part of their constitutional mandate to ensure good governance and accountability in the state, members of the Oyo State House of Assembly have embarked on oversight visitations to all the local governments and local council development areas across the state.

The exercise, which involves all the legislators was divided into the three Senatorial Zones in the State, with the aim of investigating the financial activities including the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) performances and expenditure of the LGAs / LCDA’s.

The oversight visits, led by different team leader for each zone, also focused on inspection of ongoing and completed developmental projects, which include 30km internal roads, budget performance, revenue, income and expenditure, Earth moving equipments, SUBEB -Primary school projects, Primary healthcare (PHC), meeting with security architecture of the local government, meeting with at least a king in each local government and other capital projects.

Addressing the political heads and career staff at Ogbomoso South Local Government, the overall Chairman for the exercise, who also doubles as the Chairman House Committee on Local Government Chieftaincy Matters and State Honours, Hon. Akintunde Olajide said the oversight is part of the lawmakers’ efforts to ensure effective utilisation of resources and enhance development at the grassroots level.

He said, “The state legislators are committed to ensuring that the LGAs and LCDAs adhere to the principles of good governance and accountability, and this oversight visit is a significant step towards achieving this goal”

Hon. Olajide stated further that the present administration in Oyo State under Governor Seyi Makinde is making serious efforts to improve the standard of living of every individual, hence the need for local government Chairmen to key into the agenda of the Governor and bring the dream of a new Oyo state into reality.

“The tenth Assembly in Oyo State will continue working with the local governments to improve the lives of the people and promote sustainable development in the state”, he added.

In his remarks, the team leader for Oyo North Senatorial District in Oyo State, Hon. Olusola Owolabi, representing Ibadan North 2 State Constituency, urged the local government Chairmen to prioritize accountability, transparency, and good governance in all their activities.

He emphasized the need for prudent management of resources, timely completion of projects, and provision of essential services to the public.

Addressing the political office holders at Atiba Local Government, Offa – Meta, in Oyo town and their counterparts at Sooro LCDA, Oke – Isunwin, the team leader for Oyo Centre Senatorial District, Hon. Dele Adeola, representing Iseyin state Constituency, urged the local government Chairmen to be a replica of Governor Makinde in creativity, and engage the service of Public Private Partnership as government can not fix everything all alone.

In their separate reactions, the Chairmen, Ogbomoso South, Atiba, and Olorunsogo local Governments , Hons. Oyedokun Timothy, Waliu Adetunji and Kazeem Olayanju commended the leadership style of governor Makinde, for paving the way for rapid development of grassroots through the various projects at the local government and spreading the dividends of democracy across the state.

It will be recalled that the Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin recently announced the Constitution of the three Sub Committees for the conduct of oversight to the thirty – three Local Government Areas and the thirty – five Local Council Development Areas in the three Senatorial District of Oyo State. The House Leader, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin is the team leader , Oyo South , Hon. Dele Adeola, Oyo Central and Hon. Olusola Owolabi, for Oyo North Senatorial District.
