The publisher of Republican Nigeria, Adejayan Gbenga, popularly known as ‘Gsong’, has announced the full resumption of the online newspaper, pledging a renewed commitment to credible, independent, and ethical journalism.
In a statement issued on Friday, Gbenga noted that the platform, established in 2017, was created to focus on in-depth coverage of national issues and human-interest stories. He reiterated Republican Nigeria’s mission to provide thoroughly researched, factual, and accessible news content for all Nigerians.
“The platform is now live again and can be accessed via Republican.com.ng,” he stated.
Gbenga reflected on the challenges that hampered the platform’s early years, citing financial constraints as a major hurdle to sustaining operations and ensuring editorial independence. Despite the difficulties, he emphasized that the publication never compromised its integrity.
“News production comes at a cost, but we are proud that we never sold our integrity. We remain committed to our role as an uncompromised watchdog of society,” he affirmed.
The media entrepreneur also used the occasion to call for improved press freedom in Nigeria. He urged authorities to enforce the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and advocated for better welfare for journalists to curb unethical practices in the media industry.
“The FOI Act must be fully enforced so that journalists can do their jobs without fear or interference. If the welfare and working conditions improve, the number of bad eggs in the industry will reduce significantly,” he said.
As Republican Nigeria resumes full operations, Gbenga assured readers of the platform’s dedication to delivering accurate, objective, and impactful journalism.
Gbenga is a veteran journalist with experience at prominent media outlets including Blueprint Newspaper, Western Post, and Within Nigeria.
