A former Commissioner of Information during the regime of Late Ex-Governor Abiola Ajimobi, Mr Toye Arulogun has confirmed the death of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan.
Arulogun served alongside a son of the deceased under the Ajimobi administration and has been a member of the team overseeing the media affairs and publicity for the late Olubadan.
When contacted, Arulogun said an official statement will be released shortly.
His short response to the enquiry reads, “Confirmed. Official statement on the way.”
Corenews reports that Oba Olakulehin joined his ancestors few days after his 90th birthday.
The monarch, who ascended the throne in July 2024, died in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, after spending a year on the throne.
The demise of Oba Olakulehin, born July 5, 1935, is coming barely two days after celebrating his 90th birthday.
It would be recall that, Oba Olakulehin received the staff of office from Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on July 12, 2024, as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The death occur amidst ongoing twin ceremonies to celebrate the 90th birthday and first year anniversary on the throne as the monarch of the ancient town.
A World Press Conference to usher in activities to commemorate the first year coronation of the monarch was billed for Monday, aside individuals who have also been scheduled to be conferred with various chieftaincy titles as part of the lined up activities.
